Description
A True Prime, and a really sweet, original coin. There is no hint of the virtually ubiquitous die lumps seen seen above the eagle’s “left” wing (really the right wing of the eagle, but the viewer’s left), nor do I find any clash marks…another thing that this variety is well known for displaying. The coin is lovely, and a perfect example of mid-grade, exceptionally well preserved originality. The BHNC currently rates this die state as R3?, but my opinion is a little different. In 38 years of researching this series, I’ve only handled 3 or 4 of these, thus my personal opinion is closer to R5. This is Die State 107.1, per the BHNC’s new die state handbook, “Die State Progressions of the Capped Bust Half Dollar Die Varieties 1807-1836”, which is a very modest cost item, available right here on our website.
