1827 O.145 R5 Capped Bust Half Dollar NGC F12

Description
Aside from an ancient scrape just inside S3, this coin rocks! Yes, it is “only” a Fine, but there is actual luster in the protected areas, and there is scrumptious, original golden iridescent toning. Quite honestly, I think the coin is closer to VF20 than it is to F12, and the luster will back me up on that…NGC did not properly appreciate how bluntly the O.144’s and O.145’s were struck. Though in all fairness, we did not pay them to attribute the coin, so I guess they didn’t know what it was. This is Die State 145.1, per the BHNC’s new die state handbook, “Die State Progressions of the Capped Bust Half Dollar Die Varieties 1807-1836”, which is a very modest cost item, available right here on our website.
