Description

CAC approved. Lane Brunner collection, earlier from ebay, June 2009. I think PCGS got the grade pretty darn close on this very hard-to-grade variety. These are all bluntly struck from well used dies. The obverse had seen long use on 33-110 and the reverse had done hard duty on 33-101. Why they were brought together later in the year is anyone’s guess, but we could easily speculate that there were no other dies available. This is the last variety struck with an 1833 obverse, per Leaman and Gunnett, and a particular favorite of mine. And the coin is choice, original and totally pleasing. And quite scarce. This is Die State 111.1, per the BHNC’s new die state handbook, “Die State Progressions of the Capped Bust Half Dollar Die Varieties 1807-1836”, which is a very modest cost item, available right here on our website.
