Description
I have a few pet peeves with the way US coins are sometimes classified…copper color being the primary one. But Prooflike designations aren’t far behind. In the old days, when the grading services were relatively new, the PL and DMPL designations were very loosely applied. Now, it seems to me, they are much too strictly used, this coin being a case in point. By any reasonable standard, this coin is prooflike. Yes, the reverse is more boldly prooflike (and actually borders on DMPL), but the obverse is fully reflective and should qualify. But, here we are. I really shouldn’t start on the fact that PCGS will not designate any circulated coin PL or DMPL…regardless if the coin actually is PL or DMPL…a bit of friction should not change that, and – in fact – it doesn’t! But I digress. This coin is marvelous for the grade…and fully PL too!
