Description

A very cool, very striking (sorry for that pun) error that is, thankfully, perfectly centered.  Smaller planchets in larger coining chambers, just like this, aren’t always found so nicely centered., so you don’t always get a date, or all the important detail like we have here.  It is also really nice to see the color…the toning, with a very pretty bit of iridescence, is really pretty on a nickel.  You might expect to see a great strike – full steps for sure – but the increased striking pressure that nickels require does not all end up producing a better-struck coin.  Due to the larger coining chamber, there is more room for the coin to expand, and the increased pressure dissipates as the coin expands.  Though I haven’t measured it, if you plop a one cent coin down on top of this, you’ll see our subject is a little bit larger in diameter.  Attractive, scarce, interesting and cool.  Sounds like great value to me!
